Orthodontics, introduced in Italy in the
50s by some Masters such as Professors E. Muzi, G. May, O.
Hoffer, has been able to develop over time with the first
Italian study group of Orthodontics (GISO - 1967), with the
Italian Society of Orthodontics (SIDO - 1968), with the first
School of Specialization in Orthodontics, (Cagliari, 1973),
then followed by the others, and finally with Academic Professorship
specifications, and then with courses and Master’s degree,
coming to be of interest from few initial pioneers to several
thousand practitioners. From here the opportunity and the
need of this series in which each work has a monographic character
of various extension depending on the subject.
We tried to give much space to the iconography
to facilitate use as text-atlas and to promote professional
practice application. The text, always concise, was prepared
with the maximum scientific and bibliographic rigor, and with
a teaching and clinic approach, logical and valid. Being easy
to consult, the user will take full advantage, with the intent
of making the learning of this discipline easier.
With great satisfaction the editorial series
dubbed five years ago the Silver Goal of the 25th issue, continuing
expediently to new and fast goals, really unexpected when
we timidly began with n. 1, back in 1996.
Certainly about all Italian Orthodontic University
School and professionals with proven experience, which they
promptly and enthusiastically joined the initiative, enriching
it of monographs highly significant and important as they
are committed to providing the best results in their specific
research areas. Witness the broad consensus of participants
and the satisfaction from readers, the accurate reviews and
the always valid appreciation on major magazines.
It will be our task to further raise the
level of selection of individual topics and publisher’s
task to further improve the graphics and the extension, in
the aim to offer practical texts, characterized by an easy
and clear clinical application for the user and at the same
time exhaustive on the specific topic. With the n. 32 the
necklace has been enriched by an extraordinary event: it was
printed simultaneously also in English, thanks to the foresight
and courage of the dear Publisher Dr. Alfredo Martina.
It will be our task to invite the best foreign
schools to participate henceforth the necklace and at the
same time to spread abroad the validity of the research of
Italian Orthodontic Schools.
We are now very proud to present the number
35 of the series curated by the School of Parma with a beautiful
monograph on the alignment of the posterior area of the arches.
This is a topic that is of considerable interest
both because it affects the end of an orthodontic treatment
already long, or combined during the period of a normal therapy.
The long clinical experience of the authors
makes possible to have both a clinical documentation of considerable
usefulness for the users, both for the research and scientific
documentation.
Established treatment goals, the authors
present the various therapeutic methods.
First chapter contains the devices for the
correction of abnormalities of position, in the axial direction,
with the use of the vestibular arch or the various types of
elastic or metal separators, the various types of compressed
or distalizing springs, or finally with the use of the lingual
Wilson arch.
Then are described various devices for corrections
of anomalies of position in the transverse direction both
for the crossbite and the scissor bite.
Interesting and precise the various methods
described and in particular the one that illustrates the asymmetrical
expansion by the use of modified Quad Helix.
Following numerous clinical cases with a
great sequential documentation of practical and clinical utility.
Monograph therefore to be recommended not only for the residents
but for all the specialists, even those with considerable
clinical professional experience, because they will find many
small or large tips to improve or simplify and to get faster
and more stable results over time.
To the Publisher Dr. Alfredo Martina still
a praise and thanks to the inexhaustible energy and enthusiasm
that he continues to lavish in his work, in order to further
improve the necklace in his typographical and iconographic
characteristics, and to have always been close to me with
his wisdom in the most delicate moments and in the difficult
decisions.
